I provide psychological and psychoeducational assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Assessments might be accomplished in a single meeting or over the course of multiple days. The process of an assessment depends on the referral question. It often includes: an interview with the client, legal guardian, and other involved adults when appropriate; forms completed by the client, family, and/or educators; and standardized testing.
Assessments are helpful in identifying individual strengths and challenges such as:
- Giftedness
- Learning disabilities
- Attention difficulties
- Cognitive functioning
- Developmental delays
- Memory
Reasons for an assessment might include:
- Qualifying for accommodations such as classroom and test accommodations
- Qualifying for services or memberships such as Mensa, DSO, group home
- Guiding treatment
If you are considering a psychoeducational assessment for your child, you may wish to pursue a referral to the school psychologist at your local school board. These services are often provided for free to students who qualify. Some families choose a psychologist in private practice to avoid long waiting times, keep information private, request a second opinion, or for access a psychologist with specific areas of expertise.
